Question the invitation we make
The question is not why young people do not come, but what kind of space we offer them. We cannot ask someone to share time, professional development and other opportunities while offering only inspiring words and a distant promise.
Meaning and livelihood need not be opposites. Predictable compensation, learning, safe limits and real decision-making responsibility together make a structure worth choosing.
Support does not mean taking over an idea
An idea’s need for capital, equipment or experience does not require the young person who brings it to stop being a founding subject. People who provide resources can receive fair recognition without taking away that person’s authorship and voice.
Learning is valuable, but it should not replace compensation for productive work. If an activity is education, its duration, guidance and learning outcome are explicit. If it meets a real operational need, it is recognised as work.
Small experiment, real responsibility
Create room for innovation with a limited budget, clear measures of success and reduced irreversible risk. Failure is not a verdict on a person’s worth; it is a chance to review assumptions and method.
Transfer between generations is not a ceremony postponed to the future. It begins by sharing knowledge, relationships and decision-making responsibility now. Young people should influence agendas and the use of resources, not merely attend meetings.
