What we are testing together now

Our first project for testing the Solidarity Circle method while preparing an educational programme together. We bring together educators, people who want to learn and people who can help with preparation.

Purpose: A programme that interests you may take place on a day or at a venue that does not work for you. In Istanbul, we are preparing a circle that brings together participant interest, suitable times, venue options and contributions. The first meeting has taken place; the programme, date, venue and first participant group remain unconfirmed.

A horizon for shared living and R&D

We aim to bring living, production and learning together in harmony with nature. We want each oba to test solutions to everyday needs in its own field of expertise and share what it learns with other obas.

ObaNova

Purpose: Meeting the needs of food, water, energy, care and a livelihood alone can be difficult. ObaNova is an idea for a network of places exploring ways to meet these needs through local knowledge and shared production. There is no operating campus or selected site today.

Apatheia

Purpose: You may want to explore a topic that interests you by experimenting, creating and learning with others. Apatheia aims to bring science, philosophy, art, craft and nature together through hands-on learning. It explores a path that could begin with a travelling school and digital archive. Today it is neither an operating school nor an open programme.

Solidarity Circle Method

A way to discuss needs, tasks and compensation before work begins

When shared work always falls to one person, even their need for rest can disrupt it. The Solidarity Circle Method proposes discussing in advance who will take on what, for how long and what they can expect in return, then revisiting the agreement when circumstances change. Everyone should be able to set limits without the work depending on continual self-sacrifice. Decisions affecting people rely on reasoned human assessment.

Proposal → discussion → vote → voluntary task → change history

When a decision affects shared work, you want to voice your ideas, understand the reasons for the decision and see what happens next. Shared Decisions helps you follow proposals, discussion, votes and work people voluntarily take on. The pilot starts with 60% participation and 60% approval. Accepting a decision does not assign anyone a task automatically or create a payment or contract.

When does an idea become shared work?

We begin by discussing a need and the resources available to meet it. Together, we clarify a first piece of work, its tasks and terms, then test it in a small trial. Sharing an idea does not automatically form a circle or assign anyone a task.

Describe your idea
Which need does it address, and for whom? What is already available, and what is missing?

Look at it together
Assess the idea together: how it fits BenBiz principles, the resources available, the knowledge and permissions needed, and possible difficulties.

Discuss needs and terms
Before work begins, write down who takes on what and for how long, how decisions are made, costs and any agreed pay or share.

Form a circle and start small
Start a small, bounded trial with people who have agreed to work together. Clarify responsibilities and when to review the work.

Learn and grow what works
Use results to continue, change or stop. Suitable projects may develop into an ongoing activity or a working enterprise.
